Maria Beatriz Martins Costa, director of Planeta Orgânico, took part in a meeting held by the Agribusiness Group of the Brazil-Germany Economic Meeting in Frankfurt, in July 2012, when she made a presentation on the “Green Rio”, an event parallel to the Rio+20 Conference.
In her presentation, Maria Beatriz highlighted the National Socio-biodiversity Plan and the presence of Minister Tereza Campello at the Green Rio event.
During the Economic Meeting, Maria Beatriz had a meeting with representatives of the German Ministry of Agriculture, who were interested to learn more about the concept of socio-biodiversity, as well as developing partnerships with Brazil.
The German food segment is one of the most important for the country’s industry, comprising about 6,000 companies. Approximately 11% of the German workforce is directly or indirectly connected with the sector.
At the beginning of September, a German delegation will visit Brazil, accompanying the German Minister of Agriculture, Ms. Ilse Aigner, who defends the concept that “agriculture and the food industry can only move together if sustainability is present.”

National Socio-biodiversity Plan
In 2007, the Ministries of the Environment (MMA), of Agrarian Development (MDA) and of Social Development and the Fight against Hunger (MDS) joined together with partners in the government and in society in order to draw up a plan of action to strengthen the socio-biodiversity product chain. The main objective was to “develop integrated actions for the promotion and strengthening of socio-biodiversity product chains, adding value and consolidating sustainable markets”.
